Overcoming Your Fear of Success

In today’s society, it is believed that you have to be fearless to have success. Failure, fear, and insecurities are seen as a weakness or vulnerability. Your little inner voice of self-doubt is guaranteed to rear its ugly little head just when you’re ready to step out of your comfort zone. It will tell you that you don’t have what it takes, you’re not ready, that you’re not equipped to follow your dreams. The pointless stress and anxiety that comes with this little voice in endless. It also blinds you to all the great opportunities that lie ahead. So are you ready to face your fears and claim your success with both hands?

Remind yourself WHY

Every time you decide to face a fear, there is something that pushes you to do it. This is your reason WHY. What is your motivation for wanting that success? Do you want to send your children to a better school? Move to a bigger house? Maybe take a family holiday? Whatever it is that puts a smile on your face, is your motivation…your WHY. If you can identify just three things, you will have the fuel needed to continue on your journey.

Setting S.M.A.R.T. goals

Laying out S.M.A.R.T. goals will help along this journey to success.

S – Be as SPECIFIC as possible when setting your goals.

M – Give yourself a MEASURABLE way to track progress (time, amount, etc.)

A – Ensure that your goals are ATTAINABLE within your scope of capabilities. Be realistic and reasonable

R – Make sure that your goal is RELEVANT to your specific needs.

T – Set your target TIME by which you want your goals achieved.

No matter how many times you fail, it’s important that you go back to the drawing board to keep trying.

Create your game plan

You have your end result (success), your fuel (motivation) and your journey (goals) laid out. The next step is to create your game plan. Give yourself a deadline and create your plan to get there. How do you intend to achieve each goal? Try drawing up a checklist of everything to be done. Sometimes a visual representation can be a great motivator.

If that nasty little voice is still hanging around, it’s okay. You are now equipped with the tools to turn the volume down. Speaking life and positivity into your journey will boost your confidence and motivate you more. Determination is the ultimate key to your success. If you need help or advice, don’t be afraid to ask the people who are where you want to be. Many people find that a vision board helps them stay motivated and focused on the great possibilities that lie ahead for you.
